Summary

At the end of a dark prairie road, nearly forgotten in the Kansas countryside, is the Finch House。 For years it has remained empty, overgrown, abandoned。 Soon the door will be opened for the first time in decades。 But something is waiting, lurking in the shadows, anxious to meet its new guests…

When best-selling horror author Sam McGarver is invited to spend Halloween night in one of the country’s most infamous haunted houses, he reluctantly agrees。 At least he won’t be alone; joining him are three other masters of the macabre, writers who have helped shape modern horror。 But what begins as a simple publicity stunt will become a fight for survival。 The entity they have awakened will follow them, torment them, threatening to make them a part of the bloody legacy of Kill Creek。

This book did a number on me。 I didn’t know what to expect when reading it so I went on a rollercoaster of feelings with the characters。 It reminded me of IT when the characters are all adults and they are band together again to try and defeat this thing once and for all。 Only instead of taking place years apart and the characters start off as kids, they are adults the whole time and six months have passed。 The ending is beautifully depressing with a hint of one last twist that puts the puzzle p This book did a number on me。 I didn’t know what to expect when reading it so I went on a rollercoaster of feelings with the characters。 It reminded me of IT when the characters are all adults and they are band together again to try and defeat this thing once and for all。 Only instead of taking place years apart and the characters start off as kids, they are adults the whole time and six months have passed。 The ending is beautifully depressing with a hint of one last twist that puts the puzzle perfectly together。 。。。more

While I really enjoyed the last half of this book, the 1st half was incredibly slow, and it took me literally months to finish it, because I never really felt compelled to pick it up。Also, why is it that the fat character always seems to have no other defining characteristic, other than being fat? The writing style really kept me going。 I applaud the author for putting into words the haunted house atmosphere and experience。 It could have been a 5 star read, but I had a some issues with how he wrote women, sort of sexualized them a bit。 I found the same issue with a book of Stephen King。 But perhaps, it's my personal preference or I am a bit too sensitive and making a big deal out of this。 Rating: 4。5 stars The writing style really kept me going。 I applaud the author for putting into words the haunted house atmosphere and experience。 It could have been a 5 star read, but I had a some issues with how he wrote women, sort of sexualized them a bit。 I found the same issue with a book of Stephen King。 But perhaps, it's my personal preference or I am a bit too sensitive and making a big deal out of this。 Rating: 4。5 stars 。。。more

If it were possible to give this book more stars, I would。 Just loved the book! A great horror novel。 Incredible idea, first-rate execution。

Didn’t know this was independently published when I ordered it but I know why now… It was really bad!Not scary at all and so so long。 How can the writing or a book be so pretentious at the same time as being not good at all? Don’t Waste your time if you are looking for something scary… Read a Grady Hendrix instead (actually good and scary)。

I had high expectations going into Kill Creek -- the premise of four horror authors spending a night in a haunted house sounded so fun -- but unfortunately it didn't work for me at all。 There were some cool ideas and plot points, but I found the writing quite dull and the characters extremely flat。 It was easy enough to read and would have been a three-star book for me but for the way Thomas hyper-sexualized the one female author (she writes naked! her breasts don't fit in her clothes! she decor I had high expectations going into Kill Creek -- the premise of four horror authors spending a night in a haunted house sounded so fun -- but unfortunately it didn't work for me at all。 There were some cool ideas and plot points, but I found the writing quite dull and the characters extremely flat。 It was easy enough to read and would have been a three-star book for me but for the way Thomas hyper-sexualized the one female author (she writes naked! her breasts don't fit in her clothes! she decorates with photos of vaginas and statues of penises!), and wouldn't stop describing the weight of one of the male authors (yes, he's fat, ok, but how about giving him some actual character traits?)。 Thomas's writing just made me feel gross。 。。。more

I was really excited to read this but it got slow at points and then picked up at others。 It was an alright read。 Not my favorite but def worth it。

Over all this was a really good book and definitely worth the read, I really like the concept of the house being alive rather then just things in the house being spooky。 The characters seemed a bit stereotyped for me I didn’t connect very deeply with them but I’m also not a writer 🤷🏻‍♀️

There was a sort of throw away reason but 。。。。。it was very unsatisfying。I made myself finish reading it hoping for a redemptive ending but 。。。。。this just wasnt it for me。 。。。more

This book was nothing but a mash up of other horror stories。 Not sure if the author meant for it to be a tribute or not。 The tropes were so familiar but he did come up with some interesting new experiences。 Sadly not enough to pull the story up。 The first half of the book was fairly interesting, and kept me moving forward。 The second half was just a big mess to me。 The author tended to repeat endlessly and meander in places that really needed an editor。 It was also terribly unbalanced。 It couldn This book was nothing but a mash up of other horror stories。 Not sure if the author meant for it to be a tribute or not。 The tropes were so familiar but he did come up with some interesting new experiences。 Sadly not enough to pull the story up。 The first half of the book was fairly interesting, and kept me moving forward。 The second half was just a big mess to me。 The author tended to repeat endlessly and meander in places that really needed an editor。 It was also terribly unbalanced。 It couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a cerebral horror story with unsettling scenes or if it wanted to be a cheap splatter story。 The characters were so stereotypical, Ive read about all these people before yet only better described with more depth。 These guys were all cardboard cutouts and could care less about them。I thought the storyline with regards to the haunted house was messy and unclear and not the least bit interesting。 The ending of this book was painfully predictable as it’s been done over and over again。 。。。more

Finished 52% of the book and that was enough for me。 I'm not saying this was a bad book and I don't blame the author for the books faults, it's just not my kind of haunted house book。Not a lot of time was spent in the house which was disappointing。 Most of the plot revolved on what happens to the characters after they leave the house。 I wasn't expecting this at all。 I wanted more things to happen in the house, but not much did。 Very descriptive and boring in a lot of areas especially the first f Finished 52% of the book and that was enough for me。 I'm not saying this was a bad book and I don't blame the author for the books faults, it's just not my kind of haunted house book。Not a lot of time was spent in the house which was disappointing。 Most of the plot revolved on what happens to the characters after they leave the house。 I wasn't expecting this at all。 I wanted more things to happen in the house, but not much did。 Very descriptive and boring in a lot of areas especially the first few chapters。 His descriptions were very repetitive and there was a lot of useless dialog and information in this story。 This book should've been cut at least 100 pages。 。。。more
